A co-founder of Transcend Valuation, John has been a Managing Director at Transcend Valuation since 2013. John has built a client base that now ranges in size from billion-dollar public and private companies to small start-up companies with seed capital and zero revenue.
With a team of analysts, John serves domestic and international clients covering a wide range of industries, including technology, e-commerce, crypto-currency, energy, restaurants, and biotech. Most of John’s clients are based in Southern California, Silicon Valley, or New York.
John’s business valuation experience spans 20 years and includes six years working at Deloitte in Orange County and two years at Grant Thornton and Vantage Point Advisors (now Stout) in San Diego. John’s expertise includes 409a stock-based compensation, ASC 805 purchase price allocations, ASC 350 goodwill impairment testing, ASC 820 embedded derivatives, the fair value of convertible debt for equity or liability accounting, C to S conversions, and gift-estate planning.
John works well with auditors to facilitate a smooth review process. John's experience includes passing the audit reviews of Deloitte, KPMG, E&Y, PWC, RSM, and other accounting firms. Previously, John performed audit reviews on behalf of Deloitte and Grant Thorton.
John graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1992 with a five-year commitment to the U.S. government as an officer. John attended Stanford University first, graduating in 1993 with an M.S. in engineering, and then he fulfilled his five-year military commitment. Then, in 2000, John graduated from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA with an MBA and a new career in equity research on Wall Street, where John issued buy and sell recommendations for publicly traded stock. During this time, John earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Since 2004, John’s career has been focused exclusively on business valuation.
